BREAKING - Multiple Death Threats Against UCF Jews This Week, 1 Arrested
Two death threats have been made against UCF Jews and their allies in the last 5 days, according to sources on the ground.
On January 18th, four students were confronted by a man who said that “God willing, I will be part of it,” when asked if he wished to join a global massacre of Jews. Sources on the ground tell me that UCF PD declined to prosecute this individual.
One source told the Monitor that they had brought the matter to the attention of a former law enforcement officer in the community, and that they believed that UCF PD acted incorrectly. The incident was reported to Jewish civil rights organizations.
The most recent incident occurred around 11 AM today, when a student walked past UCF Jews planting Israel flags and said he would “shoot them up.” This student was arrested, and sources on the ground told the Monitor they are pressing charges.
In the aftermath of our groundbreaking report into systemic antisemitism at UCF, it is difficult not to see a connection between institutionalized antisemitism coming from UCF’s administration and permeating its protective resources, and the recent incidents reported here. Universities that fail to protect their Jewish students nurture this behavior, and create climates of hostility. Title VI of the U.S. Civil Rights Act prohibits organizations receiving federal funds, such as UCF, from engaging in behavior which creates the exact climate that UCF Jews currently face.
Updates will be posted as they become known to us.
Update on 1/23/24: One of the students has been charged, while the other one will not be.
Update on 1/30/24: The date of the first death threat incident was incorrectly reported as January 19th. The actual date - Jan. 18 - is now listed.
